Gianni’s Trattoria

First stop on the Italian Tour of Charlotte.  Great italian food and wonderful service!  I’ve been back time and time again!

16 Union St. Concord, NC

The Digs:

This restaurant is in the walkable, downtown area of Concord. Come early and visit local shops and bars for a fun afternoon!

Inside there are two rooms with tables covered in white table clothes adorned with candles. There is also a small bar.  The bar is typically filled with locals that essentially have a seat they sit in every weekend.  Be aware, you may not be able to get a seat at the bar, but if you’re lucky enough, you’ll get a great conversation with the bar tender and a fun selection of beverages.

The Grub:

This is great, fresh, Italian food.  I love the marinara here and the dishes to accompany it are always top notch.  I have a hard time straying from the regular spaghetti with meat sauce but I’ve had a few of the other dishes like the lasagna and the piccata as well that definitely did not disappoint.  We’ve taken lots of friends here and no one has walked away upset about anything they ordered.

They do bring out some bread with olive oil and vinegar dipping sauce. It’s pretty good if you hit it on the right day, but I have been there a few times where the bread was quite dry, so I can’t guarantee that will always be great.

The Service:

Great people that have been there for a long time.  They’ll chat you up if you’re interested in talking.  They’ll make sure you have the best wine you can get and keep checking on you to make sure your glass is full.  We have also been twice for our Anniversary and they will help make is special, usually by writing a nice message on your dessert plate.

The Scratch (Per Person):

$16-$30

The Duds:

I’d dress up a little here. You could do with jeans and nice shoes & shirt and be just fine but  many will be dresssed a tad nicer than that even.

Take Note:

They do have a pizza joint upstairs which I’ve heard is great but I haven’t been able to pass up pasta every time I’m here so I haven’t tried it yet!
