The Greystone Inn

A lovely place to stay (great rooms) and an absolutely gorgeous view.  Add in some great food and excellent wine (and bourbon) and you have a win win win!

The Digs:

You can either order at the bar in the main inn or at the restaurant.  The ticket here is the scenic lake that the restaurant overlooks. On a pretty day, it would be wonderful to sit outside and enjoy the view. They also have inside seating, which is nice as well. I could see the inside being a lovely place for a fancy dinner.

The Grub:

I started my weekend here by ordering the trout dip from the bar and it was served with large crackers. It was good but it did have a strong fishy taste. It  was served in a glass jar which made a nice presentation for eating out on the lawn.

Trout Dip

At the on-site restaurant, I ordered the grilled octopus with a chorizo vinaigrette and it was phenomenal. There was excellent seasoning on the octopus and it was char-grilled. The chorizo vinaigrette on the top was awesome.

We also got a cheeseboard that had a good variety of items on it. The cheeses were very tasty. The Blue Cheese I had was super smooth and creamy.  I have not had a Blue Cheese like this before. The jams served on the cheese board, pepper jelly, and a blueberry jam,   were very good as well.

Charcuterie

For the main course at the restaurant, I ordered the tenderloin with, I believe, a leak smash. The tenderloin was perfectly cooked and very flavorful. I thought I was full but I could not stop and ended up eating the whole piece. It was great with the wine that we had.

We ordered dessert and honestly, it was  terrible. Considering how good the rest of the meal had been, I was surprised about the major fail on all the desserts that we had. We tried  the Milk Cake and the Creme Brûlée. The Milk Cake was very dry, which is odd, since it is supposed to be super moist. The Creme Brûlée was the worst I have ever had. It was burnt on the outside and not cooked correctly on the inside. I don’t recommend getting dessert there. Spend your money on wine and/or cocktails.

They do have an extensive wine list and the bottle of wine pictured is probably one of the best I have ever had.

The next day, I tried the breakfast burrito and it was put together nicely. It had a good taste but nothing over the top. I was expecting the breakfast potatoes to be freshly made, but they were the frozen kind like you fry at home.  The coffee was okay at best.

The Service:

Dinner at the restaurant was great with good service.  The server was quite talkative and made our evening very enjoyable.

The Scratch (Per Person):

$60+ with drinks

The Duds:

Wear anything. People were there in everything from sweatpants to dress clothes.

Take Note:

The outside dining area is a little more casual than the inside dining area. They do have a “smart casual” dress code  even though we were not actually dressed “smart casual” they let us in. However, they did seat us  outside.  The people inside seemed to be dressed up a little bit more.
